After the near vertigo inducing experience of Avatar, 3D seems to be all the rage. Dozens of movies are either soon to be released or in production will be in 3D. Television manufacturers have embraced the trend and are producing the first line of LED 3d televisions. Manufacturers such as Acer and others have developed 3D computer monitors.

But what about the web? Will we soon be experiencing web media in 3D?

This week The Master’s Golf tournament (the Super Bowl of Golf, for the uninitiated) announced that they will produce and distribute the tournament live in 3D. They will broadcast live via comcast users and yes, via live web feeds. For the lucky few who happen to be both golf fanatics and who own 3D computer monitors, they can experience the Masters in all its majesty and glory like never before! The Master’s has a proud tradition of being an industry leader in technology including being the first golf tournament ever broadcast in Hi-Def in 1993.

Tiger Woods not withstanding, this is a major news story in and of itself as it foreshadows things to come.

Will this have an immediate impact on small businesses. Probably not, but as a business owner you should be aware of the ongoing changes on the web. If your business relies on the internet as a marketing tool, it pays to keep up with the trends.

One thing is certain, change is inevitable!
